Monday, March 08, 2010 IFCA NOW OPPOSED TO EMS BILL |
The following email was sent to the IFCA Board by President Ellis today (3-8-10): "After much discussion with Board members and others in the IFCA on the issue of SB 1391, there was a phone vote taken of the Board of the IFCA today. Back in January an Elluminate Session was held at the request of Mark Niemeyer, the IFCA Representative on the Code Task Force Committee. There was some decisions that needed to be made in regards to the EMSS legislation that they had been working diligently on for many years. There was seven members present from the Board. We thought this provided the simple majority needed out of the 12 members that constitute the Board. What we did find out was that one was an alternate to a district director, so his vote could not count. So there was only 6 members of the Board that voted that day and this does not constitute a simple majority. Thus the phone call poll vote today by myself. In polling all 12 members of the Board we came up with a vote of 2 in support, 6 in opposition and 4 taking a neutral stance. As President of the Association, my recommendation to Mark Niemeyer, the IFCA Rep to the Code Task Force, will be to take a stance of opposition on SB 1391. I realize that this has come at the last hour and this is due to some research that found that some of the supporting votes had changed and that there was not a simple majority that voted. This was done at my request and not by any outside pressure. Thanks to all who have spent countless hours working on this Code Task Force." Chief Dean Ellis, IFCA President |
