Assistant Chief Jack Coyle
West Pend Oreille FD
February 8, 2010
The IFCA regrets to inform you that on February 8, 2010, Assistant Fire Chief John Coyle of the West Pend Oreille FD passed away from a heart attack. Chief Coyle was working on the construction of a new fire station at the time of his death. The sincere coldolences of every member of the IFCA go to the Coyle family, Fire Chief Les Kokanos and the West Pend Oreille FD. The IFCA has made a $500 memorial contribution to the WPOFD in memory of Chief Coyle.
The Idaho Fallen Firefighter Memorial was established in 2008. It is operated by the Idaho Fallen Fighters Foundation, a non-profit organization. The foundation is headed by Executive Director Kendra Marshburn (contact info below). The memorial park was officially unveiled and dedicated during special ceremonies on August 17, 2008 attended by hundreds of firefighters from all over Idaho.
The peaceful memorial is located in Riverside Park along the Boise River Greenbelt at 1775 West Shoreline Drive in Boise. It is adjacent to the Boise Fire Department's drill grounds facility (training tower). Access to the memorial is free and it is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. There is a small parking lot just off of Shoreline Drive.
The mission of the Idaho Fallen Firefighters Foundation is to forever honor, celebrate and inspire the spirit, courage and service of Idaho firefighters - past, present and future; career and volunteer. It exemplifies Idaho, it's pride, family values, community service and commitment to service.
The memorial park includes a bronze sculpture of three firefighters in the center, has a memorial wall enscribed the names of Idaho firefighters who have died in the line of duty. A brick walkway containing engraved bricks with names of supporters of the memorial surrounds the memorial. There are four large flagpoles located behind the wall that were donated by memorial sponsors.
The IFCA donated one of the four flagpoles at the memorial site upon which flies the State flag of Idaho. This is the plaque at the base of that flagpole:
DONATIONS are still needed to help pay for this memorial and to help maintain it. Engraved bricks are available for purchase by anyone or any business. The bricks can be engraved with names, departments or company logos. These bricks forever become a lasting part of this memorial as part of the walkway. Everyone that visits the memorial will be able to see your brick(s) attesting to your dedication and thankfulness to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Bricks range in price from $100 to $300. To purchase a personalized brick go to the IFFF's website at http://www.idahofff.org/
Thank you!
