Break with Vendors - Convention Center Bays 3-6 Opening General Session - Convention Center Bay 2 Today and Tomorrow with Firefighter PPE, Health, and Safety. Where We are with Standards, Research, Innovative Solutions, and Experience with Firefighter Turnouts - Michael Duyck, Fire Chief (Ret.), President, Emergency Technical Decon; and Jeffrey Stull, President, International Personnel Protection, Inc. NFPA 1850, the proposed new consolidated standard will combine fire department selection, care, and maintenance requirements for turnout gear (NFPA 1851) and SCBA (NFPA 1852) into one document. As part of the consolidation, each existing standard is recognizing emerging cleaning and decontamination technologies and best practices that can be applied to the range of structural firefighting protective ensemble elements. Research undertaken by the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) in its continued mission for defining “How Clean is Clean” has undertaken research to support the validation of various cleaning and decontamination approaches that will offer the fire service various options for reducing contamination risks to firefighters, if the adopted as part of the new, next edition of NFPA 1850. This presentation will review the findings of the FPRF investigation and indicate how this research will be transitioned into practice for the fire service through its proposed integration within NFPA 1850. The fire service has also been evolving its ability to more effectively decontaminate firefighter turnout gear. With major fire research institutions unveiling the truth about what works and what doesn't in cleaning turnout gear, this presentation will describe the innovative technology of liquid CO2 for decontamination of turnout gear. The laboratory results on liquid CO2 decontamination cover all fire ground hazards and has been expanded to include PFAS exposure, lithium-ion fire decomposition products, and many other contamination issues that firefighters face. The results of liquid CO2 in the laboratory and the fire house respresents a significant advancement in cleaning capabilities for the fire service and its firefighters. Several key initiatives have occurred over the past 12 months- come prepared to learn what’s happening in Idaho and beyond. Changes Coming to NFIRS - What Every Fire Chief Needs to Know – Chief Mark Niemeyer, Boise Fire Department; Joanna Zibbell, Fire Technology Manager, City of Boise; Ali Scott from NextGen 911. This session will cover the change from NFIRS to NERIS including timelines and expectations. We will also discuss the State of Idaho NG911 Initative. The new National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) platform will modernize and transform the legacy data system, known as the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), to a secure, cloud-hosted system that fulfills the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Data Center's (NFDC's) obligation under the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (Public Law 93-498) to mitigate the fire problem, reduce loss of life and property, and educate the public on fire safety, prevention and protection. NERIS will be the premier source of all-hazards information and innovative analytics informing the nation's fire problem and the capabilities of state, local, territorial and tribal fire services' resource capacities and capabilities to handle the problem effectively, efficiently and safely. The NERIS platform, using data procured, captured, aggregated and analyzed, will provide near real-time information on the overall scope of fire and emergency incidents across the U.S. and timely insights on significant or remarkable fire, hostile and disaster events. In a strategic collaboration, ITS (Idaho Office of Emergency Technology Services) has teamed up with the Office of Emergency Management to bolster public safety and elevate our state’s emergency response capabilities. ITS has been recognized for its work with cities and counties to prepare GIS data for the implementation of Next Generation 911 (NG911). NG911 is the initiative aimed at updating the 911 service infrastructure in the U.S. and Canada to improve public emergency services in a growing wireless mobile society. At the heart of this partnership is the enhancement of Geographic Information System (GIS) data, a critical component in the transition to NG911 services. With our dedicated efforts, we’re ensuring that emergency responders have access to accurate and up-to-date geographical data, enabling them to pinpoint locations swiftly during crises.
